Children learned that without Christ they are desperate, hopeless, alone, have no place to call home, and have no part in God's covenant. What a dismal life!
Thankfully they also learned that with Christ they have peace and access to their Father God.As if that weren't splendid enough, at the moment they accepted Christ as their Savior they also gained a forever family-brothers and sisters-that would not just live with them forever in Heaven, but that would encourage and help them here on Earth. What child doesn't need to know that they belong?
Since Sunday, the most FAQ has been, "Will our kids be studying this series as well?" That's a great question, and the answer is no...but yes.
Why no?
Our Sunday school lessons and Lighthouse Church lessons will continue as normal. Our children will not study a children's version of "Committing to One Another." In Sunday school, children will continue with their themed units. The Gospel Project will continue in Children's Church and Lighthouse Church as we feel the continuity will promote a solid understanding of the chronological events in the Old Testament. However, we think they might just be getting the best of both worlds...
Why yes?
As you, our parents, are studying and making adjustments to your attitudes, conversations, and patterns concerning the church, your children will be watching you, listening to you, and of course riding along in the car as you bring them to participate in our weekly events. It has been said that "...behaviors are caught, not taught." Your children will learn from you. The value that you place on being with your church family will be the value that your children place on being with their church family. The lessons taught in Sunday school and Lighthouse Church will become as valuable to your children as church is valuable to them. After all, isn't it true that we can assess the value we place on something by the time and energy we invest in it? So, parents, your children will learn what church is from you. From us, they will continue to learn who God is, who they are without Him, what He did to save them, and how they can become part of His church.Throughout the study, we will try to offer some ideas, suggestions, and anecdotes that will help you as you nurture your child's spiritual understanding and growth as it pertains to the church and the idea of church membership.
